What Lake Lanier does to a window
Lake Lanier has nearly 700 miles of shoreline, and the best of it is on the coves and points along Buford Dam Road in Cumming, around Lake Lanier Islands and Flowery Branch, and up Browns Bridge Road and Dawsonville Highway on the Gainesville side. The homes on the water in Marina Bay, Harbour Point and the Chattahoochee Country Club streets sit right on the coves, and the lake puts a mist on the glass most mornings in spring and fall when the water is warmer than the air. From Memorial Day to Labor Day the boat and wake-board traffic churns the coves, and the spray dries on the lakeside windows as a faint film that shows the second the afternoon sun hits it. Dock lights, bugs and spiders add their own layer to the lower glass by July.
Back from the water the problem is the same as the rest of north Georgia. The pines and oaks left standing in Cresswind at Lake Lanier, around Port Royale and in the older Buford and Flowery Branch neighborhoods let go in late March and April and coat everything in yellow pollen, and the shaded north glass under the trees grows a green film through the humid months. Construction has not slowed on the lake in twenty years, and the red clay dust from graded lots along Browns Bridge Road and Highway 20 settles on glass for a mile around. Irrigation is almost universal on the newer lots, and the overspray from sprinklers and the fairways at Chattahoochee Country Club leaves mineral spots along the lower panes.
Lakefront homes do best on an every two months schedule from May through October, with quarterly the rest of the year and the inside glass done once a year. Homes a few streets back in Cumming, Buford and Flowery Branch are fine on a quarterly plan with an extra visit after the pollen. Most lake houses have two or three stories of glass facing the water over a walkout basement, and we clean it with water-fed poles from the ground or the dock. We know the roads through Marina Bay and Harbour Point and the gate procedure at Cresswind, work each side of the lake on its own day, and send a text the morning of each visit so nobody has to drive up from town.

A first cleaning, inside and out, is $259 for a home up to 2,000 square feet, $329 for 2,000 to 3,500 square feet, and $429 for larger homes on our Silver package. After that, a quarterly maintenance plan runs $60, $77, or $100 a month for those same home sizes. Lakefront and estate homes get a custom quote.
How often should windows be cleaned on Lake Lanier?
Lakefront homes along Buford Dam Road, in Marina Bay and Harbour Point and around Lake Lanier Islands pick up mist and boat spray within weeks in summer and do best every two months from May through October. Homes a few streets back in Cumming, Gainesville, Buford and Flowery Branch are fine on a quarterly plan with an extra visit after the April pollen. Most people have the inside glass done once a year.
Can you clean the lakeside glass from the dock?
Yes. Most Lanier houses have a wall of glass facing the water over a walkout basement or a steep yard, and we clean it with water-fed poles from the ground or from the dock and ladders only where the footing is safe. We only use the lake house on weekends. Can you clean while we are away?
Yes, and most of our Lanier customers do it that way. The exterior visits need nobody home, we send a text the morning of each visit and another when we finish, and we schedule the once-a-year interior clean for a weekend you are up or with a key or code you give us.
